Located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, our museum serves families throughout the greater Seattle area and beyond. Bainbridge Island offers a unique setting where children can explore both our indoor exhibits and the natural beauty of the surrounding environment.

Physical Address:

Our island location provides easy ferry access from Seattle, making us a perfect destination for family day trips. The journey itself becomes part of the adventure, as children can watch the Seattle skyline fade into the distance while anticipating the discoveries that await them.

Our Mission

Exploring the world, one discovery at a time.

At KIDS DISCOVERY MUSEUM, we believe that learning happens best when children are actively engaged and having fun. Our mission drives everything we do, from designing interactive exhibits to developing educational programs that spark curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning.

We create environments where children feel safe to explore, question, and discover. Every exhibit, every program, and every interaction is designed to encourage hands-on exploration that builds confidence and critical thinking skills.

What We Do

KIDS DISCOVERY MUSEUM is a nonprofit organization that provides interactive exhibits and educational programs to help children explore science, art, history, and culture in a hands-on environment. We transform abstract concepts into tangible experiences that children can touch, manipulate, and understand.

Interactive Exhibits

Hands-on displays that make learning tangible and engaging across multiple disciplines

Educational Programs

Structured learning experiences designed to complement school curricula and family exploration

Community Outreach

Programs that extend learning beyond our walls into schools and community centers

Our approach recognizes that children learn differently and at different paces. We provide multiple ways for kids to engage with the same concepts, ensuring that every child can find their path to understanding and discovery.

Exploring Science Together

Hands-On Science Discovery

Our science exhibits transform complex concepts into playful experiments. Children can explore physics through building and testing structures, discover chemistry by mixing safe, colorful reactions, and understand biology by observing live ecosystems.

From exploring the properties of water to understanding simple machines, our science areas encourage hypothesis formation, experimentation, and discovery. We believe that every child is a natural scientist, and our exhibits nurture that innate curiosity.

Art & Creative Expression

Studio Spaces

Dedicated areas where children can paint, sculpt, and create using various materials and techniques. Our studios are equipped with child-safe tools and supplies that encourage artistic exploration.

Cultural Arts

Programs that introduce children to artistic traditions from around the world, helping them understand how art reflects and shapes different cultures and communities.

Art education goes beyond creating beautiful objects. Through our art programs, children develop fine motor skills, learn to express emotions and ideas visually, and gain confidence in their creative abilities. We celebrate every creation as a unique expression of the child's perspective and imagination.

History Comes Alive

Living History Experiences

History becomes tangible through interactive exhibits that allow children to step into different time periods and cultures. From colonial kitchens to ancient marketplaces, our historical areas provide immersive experiences.

  • Period costume dress-up areas
  • Historical artifact replicas children can handle
  • Interactive timelines and maps
  • Cultural celebration programs

By engaging with history through multiple senses, children develop empathy and understanding for people from different times and places. They learn that history is not just dates and names, but real stories of real people who shaped our world.

Cultural Connections

Our cultural programs celebrate the rich diversity of our community and the broader world. Children learn about different traditions, languages, foods, and customs through interactive exhibits and special programming. These experiences foster respect, understanding, and appreciation for the many cultures that make up our global community.

We regularly host cultural celebration events, invite community members to share their traditions, and provide resources for families to explore their own heritage. These connections help children understand their place in the larger human story.
